This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. Lock him up. The NFL, the US, and the world can live without him. He is a miilionaire and still doesn't know how to stay out of trouble. Donate his millions to the bailout and let him wilt away in prison. What an itiot.

Here`s a song for you Plexiglass. "All I want for christmas are the charges dropped". He and several other "professional"(?) athletes should be fired and banned from pro sports. The average worker wouldnt get away with this behavoir, why should they?

If part of getting ready for an evening out includes making sure to take your gun, then you have got bigger problems than whether or not the Giants want you to play for them.  It used to be we opened the Sports pages to see who won the game, now we get a crime report.

Now, I'm all for the 2nd amendment, but let's see here:

            1. He had a hand gun in his pocket. (so what)!

            2. No permit to be carring it: (1st mistake)

            3. Shot himself (mistake #2). Why did he put his hand in his pocket & onto the gun trigger? hmm, I guess he's just stupid!

            4. Had a friend take his un-registered gun across state lines (mistake #3)

            5. Throw his ass in jail for the rest of the football season, then stick him on probation for 10 years.

            6. Or at least the NFL should suspend him for the rest of this season & all of next.

              1) pocket aint a bad place to pack your piece.

              2) ya shouldnt need a permit to exercise a basic constitutional right, thats an infringement.

              3) yep, stupidity aint a crime since he only shot himself. had he shot someone else there are liability laws that cover it.

              4) see #2, registering a firearm is an unconstitutional infringement of the right to own a firearm, and you should be able to carry it cross any internal US border. In other countries their laws pertain.

5&6 ) no punishment is warranted for exercising a fundamental American right. That he shot himself is punishment enough for his stupidity in not safely handling his weapon, I would suggest he get some training if he's too stupid to figure it out on his own. As for the possibility that someone else could be hurt, yes, it seems that in America now days it has become a crime before a crime has occurred if the situation indicates a crime might somehow occur, but thats not a good rule of law, thats a oss of liberty and fundamental protections from tyrranny.

He should be jailed and kick out of the sport. If this was Joe Blow on the street he would be in jail and no one would care. So why should we care about this schumk.

Burress, for some reason, seems to think rules don't apply to him. Like many professional athletes and "rap stars", he thinks he's special. He could have easily killed or maimed an innocent person. Convict the man and put him in prison where he belongs.

I'm not against gun ownership and I firmly believe in the second amendment. I've owned guns since I was old enough to buy them and have been a lifelong member of the NRA. However, with gun ownership comes responsibility and Burress has shown that he has none.

Not only did he carry concealed into a nightclub, but then he tried to cover it up(with the nightclubs help). He also lied to the hospital saying he was shot at an Applebees. This guy is a poster child for trash and is facing more than just the gun felony.

Americans should have every right to carry a gun anywhere they go, that he shot himself is simply an example of his own stupidity. He definitely shold be charged with firing a weapon in a public place, but other than that....he was simply exercisng a right Americans should take for granted. As a wealthy and public figure he has perhaps more reason than most to carry a firearm for personal protection. These people are attacked and robbed regularly because of their visible wealth. Too bad he obviously had no firearm safety training, but the main damage from that seems to be to himself.

@Jo-369192; the color of his skin will make a lot of difference in the american judicial system. Its a matter of fact that blacks are incarcerated at a greater rate than others, that they receive longer sentences than others for the same offenses, and that they are charged with more severe offenses that others for what are essentially the same actions. If he had been a white player we wouldnt be hearing all this, especially not the thug and inner city stuff, which obviously reveals an prior inclination to judge by race, economic status, and other such considerations. If race aint a card, why is it so apparent in half these posts?

@jackjack-712749; they dont get in trouble? perhaps its more to my point, we dont hear as much about it. Not as news worthy, people who buy newspapers and watch tv are not going to appreciate any perception of focus on white miscreants, so editors give them what they perceive they want, perceptions that fit their preconceptions and prejudices. Not to mention the fact its easier to take rights from all of us by keeping us divided on racial and other lines, and all media are on the take from the secret police anyway. Try reading the congressional records from the 60's when a brave politician actually read into the official record from the floor a list of newspapers, television news producers, and other media outlets such as book publishers, who were actually in the pay of or accepted money from, the CIA. If memory serves me right there were very few major media outlets that were not represented upon that list, so why be surprised there is any slanting of the news in America.

We talk about corporate cultures, I think the same can be said of a sports team.   I don't remember Buruss getting into trouble when he played for the Steelers--can you imagine Bill Cower or Dan Rooney putting up with his behavior?  There seems to be a pattern here, certain teams have more then their share of screw ups while you hear little from others.  It's time for all owners and coaches to put the game first--those who cause problems--bench them, fine them but if they continue, get rid of them.  No player is that important to a team's success.  if they are the team isn't very good and the owners/coaches have to learn how to build a TEAM and not cater to the trouble makers.   It will only take a few of these guys getting booted for good, which would be the NFL's call, for others to get the message.  They have clauses in their contracts (or should have) that cover this sort of thing.

For those who are using race as a blanket reason for bad behavior, lets look at Donovan McNabb, Ladamien Thomlinson, Heinz Ward, etc. etc.  The "getto upbringing" therory just doesn't apply and using it almost gives an excuse for the bad behavior of the few.  As I used to tell my children when they tried to talk themselves out of trouble, "that may be a reason, but it's not an excuse..."   Let's not make excuses for stupid behavior especially if it's done in a racist way.

New York city and New York state does not allow people to own handguns without a "carry permit".  Plaxico Burress did not have a permit. Now it is time for Mayor Bloomberg to show us action, instead of harrasing legal gun owners, to put his effort in showing us that  by making sure this clown gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But we all know the rich take care of the rich, and the rich and shameless rarely do time in prison. And the NFL, never felt that thier elite players should follow the laws. So we know this will be dropped down to misdemeanor, and Plaxico Burress will get community time.

theres no such thing as an illegal gun owner, anyone should have the right to own a gun, period. people like you who weasel on the issue are part of the reason that soon we will all lose our right to own them, then the criminals will indeed be coming into your house to take you stuff and hurt your family. Any support of gun laws is nothing but quisling kowtowing to government tyranny.

Bloomberg as was his illustrious Napoleonic predecessor is nothing but a mean-spirited control freak. He is a kind man, and has used his personal fortune often to make up budget shortfalls, and did this silently. But he has no concept of individual rights as opposed to protecting his beloved army of EMS people; cops, firemen, the like.

It's too bad he didn't shoot himself in the nuts. THAT would probably be the only way to get his attention about the irresponsible handling of a gun, and that maybe it wasn't such a good idea afterall to take a gun to a nightclub...duh.

The NFL needs to weed out this sort of nonsense with absolutely no exceptions. Kids look up to these clowns. What the hell is wrong with this guy and Vick?? These guys should go to prison just for the stupidity of thier acts.

Then what about the fact that blacks are seven times more likely to be victims of gun crime and SIX TIMES MORE LIKELY TO COMMIT MURDER with a gun then whites. These statistics are from the USDoJ, check them if you doubt it.

satch: Did you ever consider that this story has traction because Plaxico is a football star? It has nothing at all to do with his skin color. The guy is an egotistical troublemaker on the team. Saying that he has had a rough season (since signing a huge 2 year contract extension) is being kind.

Guy in Seattle made the news. But, like other stories about folks who are not in the limelight, the story had its time and fell off the front pages quickly.
