New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg while at a nightclub and spent the night in the hospital, according to multiple reports.
What is it with certain players that have to have this thug mentality? What the hell was he doing in a night club with a gun? Night club fine but with a gun?? I'm so sick of this gang bangin' rapper @!$%# with professional athletes. I guess you can take the athlete out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the athlete.
What I expect is for the law restricting American's from owning guns in New York to be thrown out as being unconstitutuonal.
That's what should happen. Because, after all is said and done, they are.
NYC with its dim-witted gun law policy is faced with the latest SCOTUS decision together with a defendant that has the time, the money, and please, Lord, the inclination to shove Bloomberg's ill-chosen, facist words about this matter down his throat.
Plaxico Burress has not been in the ghetto since he stop playing Pop warner football.
All these so call keep in real black athletes are so far removed from the hood you need
a GPS tracker to find where they live (Totowa NJ ) AINT Newark. It just goes to show
you that most of these BIG, BAD, football players are a bunch of @!$%#es outside the
arena. I live in Harlem for 47 years and never, ever had to carry a gun or knife.
Keep that real.
Once again folks lets define the meaning of the word thug-
1-Petty Thief
2-Minor Villain
3-gangster
Plexico Burress is none of the above. What he is ladies and gentelman is a PUNK-
A person who is 6'ft 6 , plays professional football with grown men every sunday
and needs to carry a gun to protect himself in a night club with his wing man
Antonio Pierce. Both of them should be laughed right out of the NFL.
let's see next time Plax is running up the field, about to make that great catch
and realizes he's about to be sandwiched by two defender, he braces himself
and pulls out his 9mm glock and shoots them. THATS about as much danger
he faces every sunday NOT the Latin Quarters.
You know, I don't even think it's a matter of taking anyone out of the ghetto or the ghetto out of anyone. You'd be surprised how many athletes and celebrities have never even stepped foot in the ghetto. Do I know why they'd like to portray themselves as "hard thugs"? No. We are not respecting them any more or less for being from the hood. The whole thug mentality does't sit well with me period!
How in the hell did he get into the club with a gun anyway? Instead of stupidly injuring himself, he also subjected others to harm. I don't feel sorry for him at all. LEARN A LESSON!!
How did this become racial? New York is a dangerous city. If I was there I would be carrying too (I wouldn't shoot myself) If every"gangsta" who was packing in NY was arrested and sentenced as Burress will be the city of NY would have to lease jail space in 6 other states to house them all and they are shooting other people not themselves. Since when do we inforce laws only on people who actually have jobs and pay taxes. Hey NY, clean up the streets before you indicte doctors and the friends of the idiot who shot himself.
Jenk264 - your post oozes racism.
The issue to me is that this country still allows individuals to own private handguns. They're many times more dangerous to the owner than they are protective. Accidental shootings are far more common in the country and the suburbs than in the "ghetto" you assume Burress comes from.
Before you deliver a pinch-nosed bourgeois tirade against "evil rap music" take the time to ask yourself: would you be saying that if this were a white athlete with a gun in a club?
Granted stupidity isn't limited to one race but how many white players have you heard about getting into trouble with guns involved ? The rap culture has a huge impact on these guys and sporting a weapon is just another showing of prestige. You call it racism but I call it the truth. I'm tired of these guys playing the role of thug as well. I could give a rats a$$ how good the player is, if you get involved in something so stupid involving guns it should be an automatic kick to the curb.
First of all Burness does have a huge chip on his shoulder. He was fined $45,000 for abusing an official and tossing the ball into the crowd at a 49ers game, and charged $117,500 for missing a team meeting and was supsended from playing in the Seattle game, now he claimed he had a family emergency. However, whenever I had a family emergency I'd call my boss to let him know what was happening. It only takes five minutes maybe 10 minutes to leave a message. If I didn't I could have lost my job.
Burness has a huge chip on his shoulder , and I have to agree his attitude is less than stellar. Why is he carrying a gun around in the first place? If he is so afraid for his life he needs to hire some body guards.
Plaxico is stupid. Besides the Giants have won several games without Burness. Drop Kick that lame brain out of the Giants.
Yes I would!!! I don't care if they're freaking green with purple stripes. It isn't the color that's the problem it's the attitude..and it's the freakin' gang bangin rap @!$%# attitude that everyone thinks they are..Pat Riley from the Lakers brought up the same point when they enforced a dress code in the NBA..it's thug mentality and it's getting old fast.
This reply was for Stormio not poppinmary..
Trashy behavior is trashy behavior, white or black, but the news media popularizes illegal behavior as though it was something worth emulating, which is the real pity.
bkukla...agreed
No role model there unless you want your child growing up shooting themselves in the leg..Athletes are paid entertainers who the public should never allow to be lauded as any thing other than that.
Why did he go some where were he felt a gun was needed anyway?..If he was that afraid he should not have gone out.
The man is an angry foolish thug, ddangerous to himself and others. As a responsible gun owner I really detestpeople like that. The only time you pull a gun out is when you are literally aiming to shoot it. He's not only an idiot he's a rotten shot.
country still allows individuals to own private handguns
Still allows????? You must have gone to public school in the north east...
The Constitution gives us the right to own guns. Deal with it. It is one of the few freedoms we are clinging on to, if very little, enjoy in the USA...
It's not the color of the skin, it's the stupidity of the act, why carry a gun in a night club? if it is that dangerous to be there then don't go to that club. Yes most of the athletes think they are above the law. What kind of example are these athletes setting as role models.
This is why we get these kids coming out of college thinking they can do anything they want. Set an example of these athletes.
Before people are so quick to point the finger at rap they should look at the millions of other people balck and white that listen to it and dont carry guns and act thugged out you dont hear anyone saying lets ban rock n roll for every celeb or athlete who gets caught with cocaine uhum Matt Jones i mean a few years back it was all about sex drugs and rock n roll but you dont hear people make to much a fuss about that do you.
No, the issue is that
He was carrying the gun because of the fact that professional athletes are targets. Did you not just read that a player got robbed at gunpoint on the 25th. A player from Wash got killed last year. Also one in Miami. It was an accident. Sure he was carrying it illegally, but its not like he pulled it out and shot at anyone.
How freaking stupid is this , fire him period. Take all your cash back NY . What a terrible example it is when "Pro" players hold their own teams for ransom. Grow up guys, working for a living vs listening to you Pro Babys makes me sick to my stomach. Can pro players not be fired and then not compensated . In the real world we must pay for our stupidity where guys like Plexico and Starbury can do what they want when they want and still be Millionares. Is just not right.
He can be suspended by the team and fined the salary for those weeks. That has already happened to him this season. The Giants should suspend him for something like 'conduct detrimental to the team'. The suspension should last as long as it takes for him to pass a physical and return to the team. The Giants should not have to foot the bill for a self-inflicted injury like this.
My guess is that Plax Burress has played his last game for the Giants, Jay.
Chis what you say is correct but take it a step further. How many privileged crooks do we have in politics and wall street?
First off, C.Kaiser, if you are going to use a racial slur you should atleast be smart enough to use it correctly. The saying is "ghetto" not "housing projects". Second, why are you posting in all caps? Is it to much for your bumpkin ass to figure out how to use all those fancy gizmos called shift keys?
posting in all caps?
In addition to abuse of spaces, double-quotes and exclamation points.
I guess I will never understand it. People will pay hundreds of dollars to take their family to one pro sporting event so these players along with agents and owners can make millions of dollars a year. These are the modern day roll models for their children.
If you ask those same people to pay one hundred dollars a YEAR in property taxes to pay teachers to teach their children; OH NO !
As a society we have allowed greed and marketing to turn these players into worshiped gods. It doesn't matter how undeserving they are as long as they can PLAY BALL !
Why @!$%# about how other people spend their own money?
Stop going to games. Stop watching them on television. Stop buying the merchandise. Then, there will be less revenue and less money to pay these guys. It is just a business like any other.
They generate money through merchandising, gate revenue, stadium concessions, selling advertising in their stadiums and selling the broadcast rights to their games.
There is a good argument that the athletes are being paid more fairly now that prior to free agency. Back then, the owners kept much more of the revenue (albeit that the revenues were much lower back then).
Sorry, that nonsense logic is exactly why this country is in the shape it is.
You may think these athletes are worth it but I do not. I believe teachers, ANY TEACHERS, who spend their lives teaching the nations youth are worth more than a ball player. You can disagree, and you have a perfect right to do so. But as far as I am concerned GREED and MARKETING are a large part of the problem in this country today.
You have given me an idea, Paul. Teachers should get an agent. School systems can then fight over the best and brightest. Salary caps -- no way!
Can you tell I am a teacher?
I will not disagree that teachers are worth more to society than athletes. But, athletes are worth more to those who have advertising dollars to spend because there are a lot of eyes (your, mine and a whole lot more) watching and attending their events.
Sadly you are correct, Jay.
Teachers do make it possible for those that make the big bucks to make the money they do. I would like to see schools have a bigger share of the pie.
I agree that teachers are valuable. Problem is, in today's education system, there are teachers that deserve more and some that deserve less. There are not many systems in place to reward good teachers and help bad ones find another line of work.
Too that point though, the best teachers do not teach for the money...
Amen.
Time for the GIANTS to cut bait on Plexiglass. This is a cancerous tumor which is inoperable. Enough is enough. Take us fans out of misery and send Plexiglass packing to the great gig in the sky.
What. An. Imbecile.
This is what happens when you take uneducated people that have never had anything in their life, and give them millions of dollars. Regardless of their race, I've seen it happen. People get crazy because they've never had a car, a house, a boat, etc, and there comes a time when they just go overboard. Take into account Vick Dogquill and Plexiglass here, they can't make decisions for themselves, their "friends" make them do crazy crap. I'm sick and tired of these people making infinitely more money than they deserve, I say the Giants fire him for good.
I agree with what you say - it's time to say goodbye to the likes of him and Vick. The only thing they are teaching young children and teenagers is violence.
Burress is a good player, I hated to see him leave the Steelers. It took him some time to work into being a NFL player. He and Ward made a good pair of receivers. Why he was carrying a gun ? I wish him well and hope he's back playing again soon.
If it turns out Plax was carrying an unlicensed weapon in a NYC club the only "playing" he's going to be doing over the next three years is at Attica or another NY state correctional facility because three and a half years is the mandatory minimum sentence for that felony.
Lately, one could say that if he tried to vote in his home town, they'd be able to do the same thing to him. Does anyone that writes here understand what an enumerated right is? And what the word 'infringe' means? SCOTUS just said what it meant a couple of weeks ago, yes?
Also does that super-gnat Bloomberg, the alleged chief magistrate of NYC understand anything about presumption of innocence?
Thank you Plaixico for demonstrating once again why I was a big dumby in waisting a 6th round pick on you.
On a side note I found this hilarious spoof of PTI I thought yall would enjoy
Being a good player has nothing to do with acting or being stupid and immature. Hopefully, the NFl comes down hard on him for having a weapon in a night club. What is it with these high paid athletes who almost seem without any sense of character, pride, or intelligence?
I recently saw the results of a study of a number of Black professional athletes wwith a history of poor behavior and "some" of them with criminal behavior. One thing in common is that they all were missing a father or a "surrogate."
That is why it is impressive when you learn about a good young man who was only raised by a mother. Devin Hester of Bears is a good example of someone who could have gone in a different direction but was raised well after his father was killed in a drive-by shooting.
I hope the NFL comes down hard on this form of idiotic behavior. Will they?
You are absolutely right. Who cares how you play in the NFL when you can't play well in your community....which is of course..."our" community. What did ever happen to pride, character, and self respect? Like you mentioned, I wonder if the NFL organization even cares enough to try to instill any type of decorum in their athletes. You accidentally shoot yourself in the thigh in a public club, in NY, where i believe guns aren't even allowed?? What if someone else got accidentally shot? Anyway, I agree with you and how much more has to happen before the NFL starts manning up to these punks with the power of pink slips.
I agree, Mr. Law. Until someone actually holds him accountable for his actions, nothing will change. I sometimes think giving players a fine (which is usually worth my salary for a year) is a joke.
Guns and drinking never did mix very well. If he felt that he had to take a gun to this particular club, then maybe he should have thought about finding another place to drink at.
I was in an NYC tavern once where a drunken cop literally stuck a gun in my buddy's ear because he thought my friend was merely a pest. NYC cops are trained to immediatley shoot at someone they suspect has a gun until the poor schlep collapses. Look at the news, folks!
"Plaxico"? What the hell kinda name is "Plaxico"? Sounds like a polymer/materials science company.
Oh, by the way, I'm a nerd and I hope he can't trace me. He might beat me up for "Disrepectin'".
Thug.
How come everytime a black RICH MAN gets in trouble...you people come from under your rock and start WHINNING about how RICH he is and so on..... GET A LIFE LOSERS.....because if this article was about A WHITE PLAYERS....THERE WOULD BE 23 LESS COMMENTS.
He's a thug and always will be. How long before everyone say's I told you so? What's it going to take, digging up the carcasses of pit bulls in his back yard before everyone sees that Plaxico is only a few stupid decisions away from sharing C Block with Michael Vick? Burress should ask himself...Where would I really be without the NFL? And that is why he should treat the NFL and his "team" with a little more respect, and represent them with alot more appreciation. But I personally don't think he can do that so.....fire him. He has no business with guns....period....and especially in NY where they don't even allow guns? Fire him and move on. Unless the NFL readily admits that touchdowns are more important than dangerously thuggish behaviour, they should fire him...but than we'd be responsible for this clown instead of the NFL. I love football, I love the Giants, I love the NFL, but I love my community more.
If this had been about my Dallas Cowboys, i.e, T.O., people would be losing their minds. I can't wait to get them down here in Big D in a couple of weeks.
T.O has a big mouth and a @!$%#ty self serving attitude and anyone that's not sleeping knows it....but.....he's a hell of an athlete and so is Burress. We are talking about character, or lack of, and thuggish behaviour amongst a few ingrates within the NFL, and why the NFL seems to protect them instead of swiftly severing any and all ties with these clowns and at the same time sending a message that the NFL and its agents really do give a rat's ass about the community outside the NFL, which is the most important communtiy of all....."our" community. And as far as what is going to happen when the Giants come down to Big D.......pucker up sweetheart......it won't be a Thanksgiving joke of a win like you had with Seattle.
Well, I don't want to "pucker up" but I do want the Boys to play your Super Bowl Champion Giants with all our guys healthy. Can't wait........When you have 5 Super Bowls, then I will pucker up to a pathetic Giants fan. America's Team Sweatheart!
The Chowboys still have to win two more championships to even draw even with the Giants. But you knew that didn't you? ;>)
Oh come on man, I'm not talking about 107 year old 8 game seasons....lol. Yeah, I knew that. Just didn't know if you did. lmao
But come on.....first team to utilize computers/invented the flex defense/the shotgun/first team to win 3 outta 4 Super Bowls....America's Team!
This years Cowboys team will have to prove it in December. If they can have a winning schedule in December, then they will be there in the end. It looks like it took some adversity to gel this team. Bunch of way talented players who weren't playing as a team.........They are now. And I'm not just talking about Seatlle being served on a plate with cranberry sauce. No, the Tampa Bay game and Washington said alot about this defense. They are playing well. But you're right. We will know where we stand in about 2 weeks. Good Luck to you and your Giants. I'm just glad it's not T.O. or Pac Man that shot himself...lol.
Go Giants! Beat the Skins!
COWBOYS TO THE SUPER BOWL!
(That would be nine, ; )
T.O. never gets into ANY off field antics, but he is always put into the category of thug players. Now PacMan is a different story....As a Dallas fan, and I think I speak for most when I say that we aren't really that excited to reinact him on the starting roster.
However, I do want the Giants to beat the Skins on Sunday! Get them outta the wild card scenario. Go Giants!
Looks like Plexico will be meeting the NYPD with his lawyer. his mug shot should being a few bucks on EBay. Doubtful he had a NJ carry permit, much less a NY Carry Permit. Even more doubtful in light of his domestic violence incidents in Nj that he tried to keep quiet.
anyone who doesn't think the rap culture doesn't have a negative effect on some people is kidding themsleves. All you have to do is open your eyes and look around. And please spare me the "you're a racist" replies that I'm sure are coming. This has squat to do with racism. Plaxico is a talented ballplayer on the field but a bit of an idiot off it. Plain and simple he needs to grow up, start behaving like a man and take responsibility for his actions. This time it was just a slight thigh injury from a gunshot, next time who knows. He's a family man and should act that way. He got the money he wanted but you know what, lots of money makes one rich, not necessarily smart. Just look around.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Why did he have a gun in a nightclub. Wasn't he man enough to take care of trouble without a gun. Geez................
It is a big surprise that some egomaniacal clown that cannot even put his cap on straight could manage to shoot himself. Instead of being concerned about the possibility of a life threatening injury, the Giants are likely more concerned as to whether or not it is career threatening in that they might at least be able to get something in return for him when his sorry ass inevitably leaves town.
Maybe because he thought being rich, black and assertive put him in danger. He had (and has) two paths to choose. Arm yourself or stay home. Anyone here that doubts the veracity of my words doesn't frequent NYC clubs.
Big surprise - some clown that can't even put his cap on straight manages to shoot himself. The big concern is not if the injury is life threatening but if it is career threatening since it would be good if the Giants could at least get something in return when his sorry ass sails out of town.
Hey, Two Cents, did you hear about the white chief of police in Monroe, Ohio who shot himself in the leg this holiday weekend? He had just completed a gun safety class with his daughter. My point is anyone can be stupid with a gun. Even a cop. Now on the other hand I agree with the question: What the hell is a professional multimillion dollar athelete doing with a gun in, around or near a bar? It sounds like this guy has the MIchael Vick disease. All these years of hard work and training to get to be an NFL player and they still act stupid. Remember Big Ben in Pittsburgh almost killing himself on a motorcycle? If anybody who has busted their butts to bring home enough money to pay the mortgage and send your kids to college had the money being thrown at these guys they sure wouldn't be as big an idiot as these role models have become.
Yo Kurt_398890,
No, he doesn't have the "Michael Vick disease", I think he has the Joe Horn disease. In fact, all of you hypocrites who supported Joe Horn's murders have a disease, of which Hypocrisy is the least.
Pacman is back. My son says Michael Vick will be back. So will this idiot. As long as people pay to see this, it will always be. SICK!
this guy has a drug problem
A black guy that shoots someone (himself) in a club? Wow! I have never heard this before.
Hows that for racism, lol. I call it the truth.
