Giants' Burress wounded in accidental shooting

Granted stupidity isn't limited to one race but how many white players have you heard about getting into trouble with guns involved ? The rap culture has a huge impact on these guys and sporting a weapon is just another showing of prestige. You call it racism but I call it the truth. I'm tired of these guys playing the role of thug as well. I could give a rats a$$ how good the player is, if you get involved in something so stupid involving guns it should be an automatic kick to the curb.

First of all Burness does have a huge chip on his shoulder. He was fined $45,000 for abusing an official and tossing the ball into the crowd at a 49ers game, and charged $117,500 for missing a team meeting and was supsended from playing in the Seattle game, now he claimed he had a family emergency. However, whenever I had a family emergency I'd call my boss to let him know what was happening. It only takes five minutes maybe 10 minutes to leave a message. If I didn't I could have lost my job.

Burness has a huge chip on his shoulder , and I have to agree his attitude is less than stellar.  Why is he carrying a gun around in the first place? If he is so afraid for his life he needs to hire some body guards.

Plaxico is stupid. Besides the Giants have won several games without Burness. Drop Kick that lame brain out of the Giants.

Trashy behavior is trashy behavior, white or black, but the news media popularizes illegal behavior as though it was something worth emulating, which is the real pity.

No role model there unless you want your child growing up shooting themselves in the leg..Athletes are paid entertainers who the public should never allow to be lauded as any thing other than that.

Why did he go some where were he felt a gun was needed anyway?..If he was that afraid he should not have gone out.

The man is an angry foolish thug, ddangerous to himself and others. As a responsible gun owner I really detestpeople like that. The only time you pull a gun out is when you are literally aiming to shoot it. He's not only an idiot he's a rotten shot.

The Constitution gives us the right to own guns. Deal with it. It is one of the few freedoms we are clinging on to, if very little, enjoy in the USA...

It's not the color of the skin, it's the stupidity of the act, why carry a gun in a night club? if it is that dangerous to be there then don't go to that club. Yes most of the athletes think they are above the law. What kind of example are these athletes setting as role models.

This is why we get these kids coming out of college thinking they can do anything they want. Set an example of these athletes.

Before people are so quick to point the finger at rap they should look at the millions of other people balck and white that listen to it and dont carry guns and act thugged out you dont hear anyone saying lets ban rock n roll for every celeb or athlete who gets caught with cocaine uhum Matt Jones i mean a few years back it was all about sex drugs and rock n roll but you dont hear people make to much a fuss about that do you.

No, the issue is that

1. You don't  appreciate that freedom is riskier than slavery
2. You trust the State more than you do your friends and neighbors
3. You are either too lazy or too feckless to take your own saftey into your own hands.

He was carrying the gun because of the fact that professional athletes are targets. Did you not just read that a player got robbed at gunpoint on the 25th. A player from Wash got killed last year. Also one in Miami. It was an accident. Sure he was carrying it illegally, but its not like he pulled it out and shot at anyone.

He can be suspended by the team and fined the salary for those weeks. That has already happened to him this season. The Giants should suspend him for something like 'conduct detrimental to the team'. The suspension should last as long as it takes for him to pass a physical and return to the team. The Giants should not have to foot the bill for a self-inflicted injury like this.

My guess is that Plax Burress has played his last game for the Giants, Jay.

Why @!$%# about how other people spend their own money?

Stop going to games. Stop watching them on television. Stop buying the merchandise. Then, there will be less revenue and less money to pay these guys. It is just a business like any other.

They generate money through merchandising, gate revenue, stadium concessions, selling advertising in their stadiums and selling the broadcast rights to their games.

There is a good argument that the athletes are being paid more fairly now that prior to free agency. Back then, the owners kept much more of the revenue (albeit that the revenues were much lower back then).

 Sorry, that nonsense logic is exactly why this country is in the shape it is.

 You may think these athletes are worth it but I do not. I believe  teachers, ANY TEACHERS, who spend their lives teaching the nations youth are worth more than a ball player. You can disagree, and you have a perfect right to do so. But as far as I am concerned GREED and MARKETING are a large part of the problem in this country today.

You have given me an idea, Paul.  Teachers should get an agent.  School systems can then fight over the best and brightest.  Salary caps -- no way!

I will not disagree that teachers are worth more to society than athletes. But, athletes are worth more to those who have advertising dollars to spend because there are a lot of eyes (your, mine and a whole lot more) watching and attending their events.

Teachers do make it possible for those that make the big bucks to make the money they do. I would like to see schools have a bigger share of the pie.  

I agree that teachers are valuable. Problem is, in today's education system, there are teachers that deserve more and some that deserve less. There are not many systems in place to reward good teachers and help bad ones find another line of work.

Too that point though, the best teachers do not teach for the money...

I agree with what you say - it's time to say goodbye to the likes of him and Vick.  The only thing they are teaching young children and teenagers is violence.

If it turns out Plax was carrying an unlicensed weapon in a NYC club the only "playing" he's going to be doing over the next three years is at Attica or another NY state correctional facility because three and a half years is the mandatory minimum sentence for that felony.

Lately, one could say that if he tried to vote in his home town, they'd be able to do the same thing to him. Does anyone that writes here understand what an enumerated right is? And what the word 'infringe' means? SCOTUS just said what it meant a couple of weeks ago,  yes?

You are absolutely right.  Who cares how you play in the NFL when you can't play well in your community....which is of course..."our" community.  What did ever happen to pride, character, and self respect?  Like you mentioned, I wonder if the NFL organization even cares enough to try to instill any type of decorum in their athletes.  You accidentally shoot yourself in the thigh in a public club, in NY, where i believe guns aren't even allowed??  What if someone else got accidentally shot?  Anyway, I agree with you and how much more has to happen before the NFL starts manning up to these punks with the power of pink slips.

I agree, Mr. Law.  Until someone actually holds him accountable for his actions, nothing will change.  I sometimes think giving players a fine (which is usually worth my salary for a year) is a joke. 

I was in an NYC tavern once where a drunken cop literally stuck a gun in my buddy's ear because he thought my friend was merely a pest. NYC cops are trained to immediatley shoot at someone they suspect has a gun until the poor schlep collapses. Look at the news, folks!

This years Cowboys team will have to prove it in December. If they can have a winning schedule in December, then they will be there in the end. It looks like it took some adversity to gel this team. Bunch of way talented players who weren't playing as a team.........They are now. And I'm not just talking about Seatlle being served on a plate with cranberry sauce. No, the Tampa Bay game and Washington said alot about this defense. They are playing well. But you're right. We will know where we stand in about 2 weeks. Good Luck to you and your Giants. It is a big surprise that some egomaniacal clown that cannot even put his cap on straight could manage to shoot himself. Instead of being concerned about the possibility of a life threatening injury, the Giants are likely more concerned as to whether or not it is career threatening in that they might at least be able to get something in return for him when his sorry ass inevitably leaves town.

Maybe because he thought being rich, black and assertive put him in danger. He had (and has) two paths to choose. Arm yourself or stay home. Anyone here that doubts the veracity of my words doesn't frequent NYC clubs.
